3 On Your Side: SAT Help Via Cell Phone
by Jim Donovan
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―
Every parent wants their child to get into a good college but preparing for the SATs can be a challenge.
3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan shows you a unique way to prepare that involves using your cell phone.
Heather and Hilary Nokes may look like they're just hanging out but they're really working on getting into college. The twins and their older sister use their cell phones to study for the SATs.
"The questions can be like about like anything, it's not just like one certain subject," explained high school freshman Heather Nokes.
The cell phones are equipped with "push" technology which means questions are sent to the girls' phones at a pre-set time by a test prep company. They don't have to crack a book, download anything, or go online.
"There's like big books you could carry around and stuff but I mean it's a lot easier just to carry it around your phone," stated high school freshman Hilary Nokes.
Parents can keep an eye on how the kids are doing too with e-mail updates.
"Well, there's my phone so my kids are doing it right now, I guess. Yup, they took another test," said father of five Matt Nokes.
The idea is to reach kids where they are and cell phones are one great way to do it. Andy Lutz, Vice President For Products at the
Princeton Review explains: "One of the great benefits of technology is that it deepens our bag of tools, we can reach students in new creative ways and help them learn."
At only a few dollars a month, it's a pretty good deal.
"They're not really even acting like they're even practicing for the SATs because it is easy," he said.
The cell phone review questions can be purchased on their own or you can get them for free as part of the online or classroom test prep programs that
Princeton Review offers.
