NJ Mom Running Brothel Goes Before Judge
PRINCETON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS3/AP) ―
A 50-year-old minister and single mother of three who was allegedly operating a one-woman brothel out of her home Princeton home will face a judge Tuesday.
The woman spoke exclusively to CBS 3's Jamie Smith about the charges.
Meryl James says she's an ordained minister and massage therapist who practices holistic methods.
"I am a holistic healthcare practitioner who has been working for many years sharing my gift," James told CBS 3's Jamie Smith.
On a website she manages she offers Swedish massages and spiritual therapy.
"I don't know what to think because my daughter has been doing massages for 29-years and she's never been charged with anything," James' mother.
Police say they sent a male undercover officer to her apartment after receiving a tip from one of her neighbors. Police say James performed oral sex on some of her clients or masturbated them at a charge of 100 to 150 dollars per session.
James claims she did not enjoy it, but masturbated two of her clients for medical purposes.
"It's kind of distasteful to me and I only did it like once or twice and I had to wear the glove and everything," she said. "I did that I just said I didn't want to do that anymore"
James says the "masturbation" that police referred to was actually therapy she gives to some male clients who have enlarged prostates or suffer from erectile dysfunction.
"There's nothing unusual about it, she has a massage table for her massages. It's just a regular apartment," commented James' mother.
James says her clients can also request a certain type of massage in which both she and the client are naked.
"It's a very wonderful, nurturing thing," she described.
She is expected in court Tuesday.
