SEPTA Strike: R7 Is A Good Option

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA (CBS 3) ― With no contract agreement in place, SEPTA workers went on strike when Monday's 12:01 a.m. deadline came, setting the stage for chaos during Monday morning's commute.

The strike halts, bus, trolley and subway service in the city leaving riders looking for an alternate means of transportation.

One option for commuters living in Northeast Philadelphia and Bucks County area is taking the R7.

Commuter Mary Floyd of Bucks County is a regular SEPTA rider and as a result of the strike opted try regional rail. Floyd tells CBS 3's Robin Mackintosh she thinks it is a huge inconvenience. "This is absolutely horrible… I had to get up early at 5 a.m. because I'm not sure of the area, I live close but have never used regional rail."

With over 900 parking spaces at the Cornwells Heights stations this is considered to be one of the most popular options. Officials say extra trains have also been added to this line and parking costs $1.00 per spot.

Ticket agent John Adamof says riders using the R7 will need to wait in line to purchase tickets inside the train station before boarding the regional rail line.

Adamof offers some advice to commuters, "You need to get tickets in advance, get here early and to have exact change for parking."

Commuters are also urged to allot themselves extra travel time for the roads.
